When it is more complicated than teaching a new skillSome problems cannot be solved by simply teaching a better recall, practising loose lead walking or adding another training exercise. A dog may be reacting to other dogs or people, struggling when left alone, guarding things they value, becoming increasingly worried by sounds or finding parts of everyday life difficult to cope with.Behaviour Support gives us more time to understand what is happening, consider the circumstances around it and build a practical plan for you and your dog. This is individual support rather than a standard training lesson.

We start by looking at the whole pictureBehaviour does not happen in isolation. A dog’s response can be influenced by previous experiences, learning history, environment, stress, physical health, pain, predictability and what they believe is about to happen next.The first question is not simply “How do we stop this behaviour?” We need to understand when it happens, what happens before it, what the dog does next and what may be maintaining or worsening the problem.

What is included?90-minute initial consultationTime to take a proper history, discuss the problem in detail and begin working through what may be contributing to it. Where practical and appropriate, training can begin during this session too.
